Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in an expedition in Russia's northern Yamal region to save endangered Siberian white cranes. The birds, having been raised in captivity, have never migrated south. Putin, along with conservationists, flew a motorized hang-glider to lead the cranes on the start of their migration.
