What are the best vegan bodybuilding protein sources?
The best body building sources in general are egg whites, whey protein and lean meat.
And I am vegan.
That does pose a challenge, but it can be done. Are you nutty?
Some people think I am for body building, some think I'm crazy for being vegan, and trying to do both simultaneously simply leads to statements that it is impossible.
I meant to ask if you like nuts. If you are dead set on vegan instead of vegetarian, you can get a lot of your protein from nuts.
Peanut butter is high in sugar and fat. Walnuts, pecans and almonds are good but expensive.
Lentils, chickpeas and beans are vegan sources of protein.
As long as I don't mind the risk of farting with every squat.
Then there's the flavor.
That's why Indian food relies on curry and other spices, because no one could stand eating chickpeas, lentils and rice without it.
You can substitute meat and dairy with soy products.
I've seen protein powders based on various nuts.
There's even one based on yellow peas, I think, but they must assume body builders will eat anything.
They'll eat anything to get the body they want.
Mix sugar free peanut butter powder into fruit smoothies. Use soy powder, powdered nuts or hemp protein powder in your shakes.
I saw hemp protein shakes somewhere.
That's just about the only time a body builder should come anywhere near hemp products -- smoking weed slows you down and gives you the munchies.
I heard that quinoa was a complete source of protein and amino acids.
There's a reason that the potato went international while the quinoa stayed home. You can replace rice with quinoa in recipes, but you have to add a lot of sauce to make it palatable.
Someone said you could eat tempeh.
If you can stand to eat it, sure.
