Is it good to go to bed a little hungry? I've heard everything from it derailing your diet to making you make more progress.
Going to bed hungry used to be a punishment reserved for little kids. Or something poor people did if there was more month at the end of the money.
I've heard that it is a good dieting technique.
If you wake up starving at 2 AM, your choices aren't going to be in accordance with your strict diet. You'll want to binge on ice cream, chocolate and everything limited on your diet.
Then you go to sleep with a slowed down metabolism, more likely to gain weight than lose it.
The only thing that might be worse is sleep eating, but that is rare.
I saw a TV show on that. One poor woman was caught on video eating raw bacon and ashes from an ash tray.
At least it proved she wasn't doing it on purpose. If half awake, she'd have eaten something that wouldn't give her food poisoning.
If you go to bed hungry, it is supposed to make your body burn fat at night.
You'll do better if you go to bed early and get enough sleep, full from a large dinner.
I've heard you shouldn't eat for several hours before bedtime to burn off dinner.
That really only works if you eat a high fiber, high volume meal so you aren't hungry until breakfast.
If you are hungry at night, you'll eat a hearty breakfast.
You'll crave unhealthy foods in the morning from the mini-starvation, and you'll have poor quality sleep.
I know poor quality sleep can make you lose weight, because it slows down your metabolism and makes you crave unhealthy foods.
That's why night shift people are more likely to be 20 to 40 pounds overweight. And if hunger ruins your sleep, you might be too tired to workout the next day.
So much for calorie burn.
If you keep going to bed hungry, have a small fiber bar before you go to bed to shut it up.
And be guaranteed a regular morning routine.
